Zinfandel – Primarily regarded as a Californian varietal (although recently proven to have originated from vineyards in Croatia), Zinfandel is a crimson wine with light to full body and berry-like or spicy flavours. The wine turned 100% Viura within the Eighties when the Rioja DOC was institutionalized and is now known – at the very least for me – for its savory, stoney, and creamy orange blossom character.
The pink hue of the wine and the active mousse make this a really celebratory wine. After secondary fermentation, the wine remained on the lees within the bottle for 6 ½ years earlier than being disgorged.
